Middle school softball opened up their season against Grapevine Faith Christian School on Thursday, March 23rd, but the Lady Mustangs lost 12-0 in Grapevine. Eighth grader Truett Rothrock said, “They had a really good pitcher and when they hit pop flies, I wish we could have caught them all.” Although the girls struggled with catching pop flies, Rothrock got a hit, as well as eighth grader Memorie Treigle who got walked to first. The girls never made it back to home plate, but this game was definitely one that they learned from. Head Coach Wendy McDowell says, “The girls never gave up even through their (Grapevine’s) pitcher was really good. There were a lot of our players that stepped up during the game that showed surprising leadership.” The following week on Monday, the girls played Parish and got their first win, 8-3. The girls displayed great teamwork and showed tremendous improvement from their last game. McDowell also said, “I’m looking forward to watching them develop and grow offensively and defensively and I can’t wait to see their potential grow into the season.” On March 30th, the Lady Mustangs are scheduled to take on Prince of Peace Catholic School.
