Matilda’s parents had always favored her brother and left her out of the picture. She was left no choice but to raise herself. She was able to teach herself just about everything with no help or formal education. By the time she was finally put in school she was way ahead of her grade. Her teacher Miss Honey took notice of this and saw she was gifted. However, when Miss Honey spoke up to say Matilda was not your average child, she was shut down by the cruel principle. Mrs. Trunchbull is horrible with children yet, she’s the head of an elementary school? Miss Honey finally comes to the realization that Mrs.trunchbull is not going to do anything for Matilda’s benefit. After this she makes the decision to help Matilda as much as she can by herself. Matilda and Miss Honey become extremely close. Over tea one afternoon Miss Honey opens up to Matilda. Matilda learns that Miss Honey has had a rough past. Her parents passed away when she was young therefore, she was forced to go and live under the care of her aunt. We later learn that her aunt is Mrs. Trunchbull. Mrs. Trunchbull makes her life miserable. She took all of Miss Honeys belongings and money and left her with nothing. Together Matilda and Miss Honey get back at Mrs. Trunchbull and Matilda’s parents.
Matilda is a book that everyone should read at least once in their life. Once you read it you will remember it forever. I have read this book twice and would still read it again. The first time I read it I was in the fourth grade. It is perfect for anyone who is ready to read a short novel that is easy to understand. I would highly recommend this book. It is one of my favorite books to this day. I have not met one person who has said they don’t like Matilda. It is the perfect book that connects with everyone.
