McKinney Christian Academy is known for many amazing things, but there are a few that stand out. One of these few things would be the Amphitheater outside of the school. Across from the Student Life Center and down by the trees, stands three wooden crosses. Facing these crosses are two sets of wooden benches.
Dan Collins, girls’ basketball coach and PE instructor, gave historical facts and more insight into the amphitheater. Dr. Mike Adams and Dr. Lee Brock were the founders of the amphitheater. They came up with the idea in 2003 and raised enough money to finally build it in 2004. The lower school has made the most use of the amphitheater since it has been built. The lower school use to hold “Stories Under The Stars”. This was when students from all grades in elementary school could come together at the amphitheater and they would read stories while drinking hot chocolate. The kids in elementary loved this event and will never forget how fun it was to them. Junior Caleb Buchanan has been going to MCA since he was in Pre-K and he still remembers the happy memories that we made in the amphitheater. Buchanan says, “I’ll never forget the happy memories me and my friends made in MCA’s amphitheater. I loved that we were able to have this fun event outside under the stars.” The amphitheater has also been used by bible classes when they want to have class outside.
Collins said, “The amphitheater symbolizes community and enjoying God’s nature with the other students in your class.” Not only has this theater been used for fun events, but it has also been a place where you can build relationships with your peers.
Genesis 15:5 says, “He took him outside and said,’Look up at the sky and count the stars-if indeed you can count them.’ Then he said to him, ‘So shall your offspring be.”
