How and Why we Worship God in the Mundane and Routine

It is so easy to get caught up in the routine of this life; for most of us, we wake up, go to school, go home, and either hang out with friends or go to a sports practice or the like. We might even get some extra homework assigned or extra responsibility regarding our siblings. And for me, it is very easy to focus on what I’m doing next or what my next activity is, without even thinking about how I have been worshipping God, or how I could worship God in the next hour.

Colossians 3:17 says, “and whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

I often forget how this verse practically applies to every part of life. It doesn’t say, “whatever you do at church” or “whatever community service you do”, but rather it says “whatever you do.” Whether it’s taking a sibling from event to event, doing endless amounts of math homework, or simply eating dinner, the Lord always deserves our praise. We can always find a reason to thank Him and worship Him for the mercy and grace that he bestows upon us, for He gives us the simple blessings in life that we often overlook. My prayer for this week is that I quit overlooking these blessings and begin to thank God for everything that I have and am able to do.
