Last school year, a very generous donation was made to the MCA debate program that allowed three debate students, senior Ryan Shelton and sophomores Nise Olawale and Michael Starling, to participate in the UTD/UNT Comet Debate camp. The donation will allow the debate program to send more students to the camp in the summer of 2019. This year the debate team is made up of three levels of debaters. There are three advanced debaters in their third year: Seniors Archer Morrow, Shelton, and junior Sydney Wible. The advanced debaters play a leadership role for the younger debaters. There are five Debate II students in their second year: Sophomore Olawale, juniors Jason Cross and Matthew Smith, sophomores John Brock and Starling. Lastly, there are 14 Debate I students. Dr. Jane Debord said, “Congratulations to our hard-working debaters. They all represented MCA well after the Princeton Annual Fall tournament.” The Debate team will be competing in three upcoming tournaments: Princeton Annual Fall Classic-September 29, Melissa Cardinal Autumn Classic-October 13, and the Prosper High School Fall Invitational.
