On the weekend of December 8-9, junior Maura Cueva traveled down to Waco, Texas to compete in a horseback riding competition. This was not just any competition, this was Cueva’s first experience at the “A” Horse Show. Going into it, she and her family were only expecting it to be a good experience, not to come home with many ribbons because she was competing against professional and Grand Prix riders in this national horse show. Cueva, along with her horse Quidditch, competed with over 28 other horses in the 1.0 meter and 1.05 meter classes. Cueva finished as the champion in the 1.0 meter, a huge accomplishment. Scouts from notable Texas universities such as Southern Methodist University and Texas A&M University talked to Cueva after her competition.
