Bernie Sanders 2020 Presidential Candidate
February 27, 2019
In the midst of a growing field of Democratic presidential candidates for the 2020 election, Vermont Senator, Bernie Sanders, declared his own intentions on running on Tuesday, February 19, 2019. Sanders is most famous for running against Hilary Clinton in the 2016 election, however he lost the nomination at the Democratic National Convention.
Despite Sanders announcement, it is important to view his intent in multiple ways. To start, Sanders is a self proclaimed Socialist. Socialism is an extremely left view: the desire for the federal government to have complete power over the states government and be able to regulate every aspect of society. Then people must think why Sanders has been a Senator for the State of Vermont since 2007. If Sanders believes the federal government should have complete social power, then why would Sanders represent the individual legislature of his own State? Based on Socialism, studies show that most millennials don’t understand what Socialism actually is– many believe it is the use of social media and increasing social interaction between people and their friends.
Next, it is important to understand the significance of the Democratic Party of the presidential hopefuls. As of right now, there are 12 politicians declared to run for the Democratic Party in the 2020 election. The number is most likely only going to keep growing as the politicians continue to declare their intentions. One must then determine how far left the Democratic Party is going to go. American citizens must ask if the policy that each candidates speak for are their true belief, or the obligation to feel the need to equalize their leftism with all others in the field.
Sanders announcement comes along with many other announcements from democratic hopefuls. It is important for everyone to understand each candidates true beliefs and intentions if they were to become president. American Citizens can do this by looking at the policies that each candidate implemented, or tried to implement as public representatives, as well as through past and current speeches, actions, and religious involvement.
