On Saturday, April 13, the Upper School Mixed Choir traveled to Waco, Texas for the annual TAPPS Choir Competition. The Choir arrived in Waco around 10 a.m. and sang until 11:30 a.m. The group performed the following: “A Red, Red Rose” arranged by Daniel Burton, “If Music Be the Food of Love” arranged by Andrew Miller, and “Festival Sanctus” composed by John Leavitt. The choir also sight-read a piece chosen by TAPPS. The choir was given a one (the highest score and a rating that qualifies as superior) from every judge, for every song in the concert portion of the competition. They scored a two in sight reading (a rating that qualifies as excellent). Overall, they placed 14th out of 32 schools total. Choir teacher, Janine Locke, said this about the competition, “The weather that day was very tenuous and not on our side, but the choir overcame the stress of the weather and sang very well during the competition. I could not have asked for anything more.”

On Friday, April 5, the Upper School Mixed Choir traveled to Fort Worth, Texas to compete in the annual TPSMEA Choir Competition. The choir arrived in Fort Worth around 8 a.m. and sang until about 9 a.m.  The choir performed: “A Red, Red Rose” arranged by Daniel Burton, “If Music Be the Food of Love” arranged by Andrew Miller, and “Festival Sanctus” arranged by John Leavitt. After they finished the concert portion, the choir then sight read a piece of music picked by the TPSMEA judges. The choir received a one, which is the highest score, from all three judges for concert and sight reading. The choir received a big, new trophy for the choir room. Overall, the scores reflected the hard work and effort the choir has put in this year.
