7th Grade Trip to Sky Ranch Christian Camp

On May 1, the 7th grade drove east to Sky Ranch Christian Camps in Van, TX. Every year each grade in middle school goes on a class trip. The 7th-grade trip this year was catered to building a Christ-like character in each student and bonding the grade together as a whole. On Wednesday, the students talked about how everybody has “speed bumps” in their life, but God is always there. They also participated in an activity where one person goes into a maze blindfolded and their partner stands above the maze, looking down and guides them through using their words. During the two hours of recreational time, students were allowed to go swimming, ride waterslides, jumping pillow, in-ground trampoline, and play sports. The second day, 7th grade discussed the power of words. The camp counselor put down 16 square mats and created a pattern. Students had to finish the pattern from start to finish and if they talked, then the counselor would change the pattern and they would start over. Once they completed the pattern, they could talk and help others by talking. Students also went to the cafe, the gift shop, played gaga ball, and went ziplining. For their Thursday night activity, they went to the rodeo arena and participated in a calf scramble, ate s’ mores, rode a fake bull, and danced. On the last day, Friday, everybody talked about personal impact. They did an activity where they each had a foot-long pipe and as a group, had to work together to get a golf ball into a pitcher by leading it with their pipes, which they successfully completed. Then they had to do the same thing without talking which was also successfully completed. Lastly, the whole grade had to run down a hill all together at the same time, this was not a success. Afterward, the counselors explained their paddles and why they were significant to them. The counselors gave each student a small circle of cedar wood and they drew something that is symbolic to them. Dani Madole said this about the trip, “It was a lot of fun and a great bonding experience.” Following all the activities, the 7th grade and chaperones ate lunch and made their journey back to MCA.
