A group of McKinney Christian Academy’s students took a trip to San Antonio for 2020 Missions Week. MCA partnered with Blueprint Ministries, a local non-profit organization, that works with volunteers from all over Texas. Blueprint’s goal is to share Christ’s love and hope while serving the elderly, physically disabled, and low-income by renovating and improving sub-standard housing. Junior Connor Durbin commented on the impact of the trip saying “It impacted me by showing that God is truly working in communities that are not as fortunate as the ones that we are used to seeing.” The students on this trip were divided into two teams and sent out each day to different locations to renovate the houses of two elderly individuals. Throughout the week, students painted the outside of a house and each group installed a new roof on the two different houses. When asked about the trip senior Joy Chiang commented saying, “It was both refreshing and revitalizing to see people serve so selflessly and happily for an entire week. I got to make unlikely friendships that I will always be thankful for and I have learned from this experience to keep an open mind and open heart no matter where God decides to place you. I started missions week unsure of what was to come but ended up not wanting to go home at all.” In addition to serving and working together with Blueprint ministries for the second time, the students were able to take part in fellowship by attending an NBA Spurs game as well as having dinner on the San Antonio Riverwalk. The mission trip to San Antonio was a success and MCA is planning to continue its partnership with Blueprint Ministries next year as well.
