It’s a new school year bringing in new changes. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic McKinney Christian Academy has been working hard to push through. That being said, the mustangs have expanded their staff with six new teachers.

The Lower School has received three new teachers this year. Lynette Siebrasse is a new Pre-K teacher. Stacy Johnson has come on staff as a virtual fifth and sixth grade teacher. Tyra Free is also a virtual teacher but for second and third grade. Celeste Harriman moved from the Middle School to the Lower School and is now teaching second grade.

Though the Middle School has not received any new teachers, they were blessed with a teacher moving up from the Lower School. Shannon Atherton moved from teaching Lower School to the Middle School and has found her home in sixth grade. Atherton comments about her transition saying,”When given the opportunity to move from Lower School to Middle School, I had to take some time to think and pray about it because I love the Lower School team, especially my partner, Mrs. Francis! However, I have taught in the elementary grades for 15 years and I was ready for a change. Thus far, I love it! I am enjoying the 6th graders immensely. In a way, I feel like we graduated together.”

The Upper School has received three new teachers to their staff as well. Mackenzie Matthews is teaching World Geography as well as U.S. History. Honors Algebra II, Honors Precalculus and Trigonometry, Precalculus and AP Calculus are now all taught by Ashley Hawkins. Phillip Davis moved to MCA to teach Debate I and II, Advanced Debate, U.S. Government and Economics. Davis is also the facilitator for the online Dual Credit U.S. History. When asked about his experience at MCA so far, Davis jokes,”Kids are alright, I suppose; the attempts at facial hair from the young men are appreciated. However, the coffee is top notch.” McKinney Christian Academy welcomes these new teachers and include them in the Mustang family.
