Every year when a new class graduates two seniors are honored as valedictorian and salutatorian of their class. This is a prestigious title that requires students be more than just an average student, dedicating extra time to additional classes, as well as the required courses, challenging themselves to higher level classes. In order to qualify for one of these titles the student must be graduating with an honors diploma. To graduate with an honors diploma the student must have a weighted grade point average, GPA, of 3.75 or higher, 40 cumulative hours of community service, and four AP or dual credit courses. As well as graduating with an honors diploma the students must be enrolled at MCA from the beginning of tenth grade or earlier to be a candidate for valedictorian or salutatorian. In order to qualify for valedictorian one much achieve the highest GPA in ones class as well as graduating with an honors diploma. This years valedictorian is senior, Jacob Hocevar. When asked about this honor, “It’s a great honor. It takes a lot of time to do school. I would like to thank Ms. Cheney for making me work hard.” Hocevar will be attending Texas A&M University.  The salutatorian is given to the student who achieves the second-highest GPA in the graduating class also graduating with an honors diploma, this year salutatorian is senior, Shane Vanderhagen. He will be attending the University of Alabama. These two seniors will be giving their speeches at graduation on May 14 at Cottonwood Creek.
