The 15th annual Special Olympics track and field meet took place on Thursday, April 14. MCA’s National Honor Society members attended the event at Ron Poe stadium to volunteer. Upon arrival students formed a tunnel for the athletes from all different school districts to walk through as they entered the stadium. Many students were partnered with an athlete for the day cheering them on as they competed in their events. Students who were not partnered with an athlete either helped with the field events, concession stand, or awards ceremonies. The field events included Shot Put, Tennis Ball Throw, Softball Throw, Javelin, Standing and Running Long Jump. When asked about what she enjoyed the most, Junior Danie Morales stated “I really enjoyed being able to cheer on Sophie and spend time with her, I especially loved seeing the smile on her face when she won the event she participated in.”
