On Tuesday, December 6, the McKinney Christian Academy Fine Arts program hosted their annual Christmas showcase. Parents and families were invited to view the variety of pieces created by the art students. Students in Graphic Design, 3D Art, and Visual Art had pieces showcased. Following the art showcase, the Middle School and Upper School band and choir members performed a selection of Christmas favorites. The 6th grade choir kicked off the concert singing three songs including “Jing Jingle Bells,” and “Candle of Hope” by Wagner, along with “Christmas…In About Three Minutes” by Weston. The sixth grade band then followed, performing four songs such as “Jingle Bells” by J.S. Pierpont, “Jolly Old St. Nick,” and two others. The 7th and 8th grade choir then sang three songs including “Jingle Bell Rock” by Billingsley, “The Little Drummer Boy” by Sterling, and “Noel, Noel” by Spevacek. After the Middle School choir performance, the 7th and 8th grade band played “Holiday Variations” by Michael Story, “A Fireside Christmas” by Rob Romeyn and “The Name’s Claus… Santa Claus” by Mark Williams. The Upper School vocal ensemble followed this performance by singing “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Snyder, “Believe” by Chinn, and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Emerson. Between groups, the MCA Jazz Band played a selection of Christmas tunes for the audience. The Upper School Chorale then sang “Adore” by Larson, “Carol of the Bells” by Wilhousky, and “Do You Hear What I Hear?” by Simeone. To close out the concert, the Upper School Concert Band played three songs including “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” by Rox, “The Christmas Song” by Torme, and finished the concert with “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” by Hague. The night showcased the hard work Fine Arts students and teachers have put into the program this far.
