McKinney Christian Academy has many talented fine art students who have been able to compete at some of the highest levels across the state. Junior Aiden Ewing, a member of the MCA Jazz Band, was selected to the Texas All-State ATSSB Jazz Ensemble which is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. Ewing competed for this prestigious honor through a process held earlier this year across the state at the District, Region, and Area levels. High school students selected to perform in the All-State concerts have competed through auditions to qualify at the state level.  There were 1,875 students selected through a process that began with over 70,000 students from around the state vying for this honor to perform in one of 18 ensembles. Texas Music Educators Association sponsors the Texas All-State competition. This competitive process began throughout the state with auditions hosted by 33 TMEA Regions. Individual musicians performed selected music for a panel of judges who ranked each instrument or voice part. From this ranking, a select group of musicians advanced from their Region to compete against musicians from other areas in eight TMEA Area competitions. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualified to perform in the TMEA All-State music group. Only the top 2.6% of musicians who initially auditioned become All-State musicians. These All-State students participated in four days of rehearsals directed by nationally recognized conductors during the TMEA Clinic/Convention. As the final culmination of this process, Ewing will perform with the Texas All-State ATSSB Jazz Ensemble in San Antonio, Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the Henry B. González Convention Center as part of the 2023 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention.

Junior Jackson Iseneker was also awarded high honors as he competed against all private schools in the state of Texas. Iseneker won 3rd chair trumpet in the Texas Private School Music Educators Association All-State Jazz Ensemble for the second year in a row. This concert was held at the Eisemann Center in Richardson on January 28th. Iseneker also competed against 1A-4A public schools in the Association of Texas Small School Bands where he won 5th chair trumpet and a spot in the ATSSB All-Region Jazz Ensemble. This competition was held at Legacy Christian Academy on November 15, 2022.

Also on January 28th, sophomores Courtney Arnold and Davie Kitzmiller performed at the Eisemann Center in the Texas All-State Choir Competition. These students had to achieve a specific chair ranking in order to advance to the State level of competition. Those students that advanced then competed against other singers from across the state of Texas where they learned and performed music not only in English but Irish and Latin. The music was of high collegiate level and was taught and directed by conductors that are the best in their field.  This is the highest honor given by TPSMEA.
