The 16th annual Special Olympics track and field meet took place on Thursday, April 6. McKinney Christian Academy’s National Honor Society members attended the event at Ron Poe stadium to volunteer. Upon arrival, students formed a tunnel for the athletes from all different school districts to walk through as they entered the stadium. Many students were partnered with an athlete for the day cheering them on as they competed in their events. Students who were not partnered with an athlete either helped with the field events, concession stand or awards ceremonies. The field events included Shot Put, Tennis Ball Throw, Softball Throw, Javelin, Standing Long Jump and Running Long Jump. Junior Morrissey Smith, said, “I loved being able to hang out with the kids and see them enjoy playing games while cheering them on.” NHS students will have their induction ceremony for new members on May 3.
