On Tuesday, August 8, the Mustangs opened their 2023 season against Frisco Legacy. With a new team this year, losing two seniors, the Mustangs hoped to start their season with a win. After a first-set victory of 26-24, they went on to lose the second set 20-25. Head Coach Tara Ackmann said, “After the second set we decided to make some changes on the defensive side to help our chances.” The Mustangs would go on to win the third set 25-22. They would then drop the fourth set 27-25 after not being able to secure the win on set point.
Going into the last set, the Mustangs battled for the lead but would fall short losing the fifth set 15-11. Senior Kaylin Starling, who recently committed to Colorado Christian University to play volleyball, led the team in kills with 13. Juniors Kadence Ackmann and Bren Williams were not far behind with 11 and 12 kills each. Junior Mia Gunn led the way defensively with 14 digs. Senior Allie Stephenson shares her thoughts on how the game went saying, “I thought we played good together as a team and played really aggressive. I’m excited for the rest of the season and think we will be a really good team.”
The Mustangs will travel to face off against Ovilla Christian on August 15th.
