On Wednesday August 9, and Thursday August 10, McKinney Christian Academy’s Upper School students traveled to Riverbend Retreat center for their annual Upper School retreat. The senior class left a day early to connect and grow closer with each other by talking alone as a class. When asked about this time senior David Roller said, “I really enjoyed the time we spent with each other as a class, we all opened up and enjoyed the time without teachers. We grew closer as a class and promised as a class that we wanted to make our last year special.”
Students are divided into small groups from all different grades. This gives them time to get closer as a small group, talk with each other, and meet new members of their small group. These small groups were paired with a sister group and a brother group to compete in a lip sync competition. The students had free time where they could go to the pool or lake, explore the nature trails, and hang out with friends. The students were talked to by guest speaker Adrian Despres for the second year in a row. Despres talked about how no matter how far we think God is he is always closer than we think. He also talked about how we should do anything to get to him and become closer to him. At the end of the night the brother and sister small groups performed their lip sync battle with the winning group performance of “I’m Just Ken.”
The last day of retreat was ended with a devotion from Upper School Principal Laura Smith and concluded with the fight song.
