On Thursday, August 22, the McKinney Christian Academy varsity volleyball team competed on the first day of the Tournament of Champions. This day, the Lady Mustangs came out strong, beating HSAA, Coram Deo and Wylie Prep, putting them first in their pool. Junior Sadie Blake was strong at the net with 32 kills, and senior Mia Gunn led the team with 37 digs. On day two of the tournament, the Mustangs started by playing Frisco Legacy. Both teams fought hard to win every point. The Lady Mustangs also went on to win this game with scores of 25-17 in the first, 16-25 in the second and 15-7 in the third set. With a win in this game, the team moved on to the championship to play the Ovilla Eagles. The Mustangs fell short in the first set by a score of 25-27. Then, the Mustangs tied it up in the second set by winning 25-23. Finally, the Mustangs won the third set 15-10 to win the championship. Freshman Ellie Mullins and senior Kadence Ackmann won the All-Tournament Team award. Sophomore Tristyn Vineyard talked about the tournament, saying, “The tournament was a lot of fun, we played a bunch of talented teams this weekend. We were able to play well with each other and have a good team chemistry which helped us win! My favorite part of the tournament was getting our revenge on Legacy in the third set.” The MCA JV team also played due to teams dropping out at the last minute, and they fought hard for every point but fell short of winning.
