On Monday December 9, the McKinney Christian Academy varsity cheer team traveled to Waco, Texas to compete in the annual TAPPS state competition. They competed on Tuesday December 10, at 10:52 am for prelims and then at 3:50 pm for the final performance. The team took fourth place out of 14 teams in the Spirit VII Division. Seniors, Elise Winston and Rachel Jones received first team all-state. Sophomore, Halle Jones, received 2nd team all-state. Freshman, Allison Driskell, received all state honorable mention. Senior, captain, Elise Winston exclaimed, “I love the adrenaline you get from stepping on the mat and the memories I made with my teammates and friends. I’m proud of my team and how hard we worked.”

Bri Northam is a senior and has been at MCA since her sophomore year. This is her first year in newspaper. She attends City Church Melissa for Sunday services and is involved in youth group at Parkway Hills Baptist Church. She is looking forward to growing closer to God and her class this year. In her free time she likes to hangout with friends, go for walks, and explore new places. Her favorite Bible verse is Matthew 6:27.
