On March 5, The McKinney Christian Academy Women’s soccer team was crowned back to back state champs after a 3-1 victory over the Atonement Catholic Academy. Senior captain, Casey Gerardis, scored two goals, and senior captain, Kadence Ackmann scored one. Gerardis’ first goal was assisted by Junior, Sadie Blake. Her second goal was assisted by Junior, Sadie Zbranek. Junior, Tatum Barnard, assisted Ackmann’s goal. After the final whistle, all the girls celebrated and sprinted into each other’s arms as they screamed with excitement. The team played with everything they had although there was adversity. When Gerardis was asked how she felt after the game she said, “I felt overjoyed and I was incredibly proud with how our team ended the season. We could not have done it without Coach McDowell’s leadership.” When Junior, Sadie Zbranek, was also asked she said, “I felt as though we had worked very hard for this moment and it was well deserved. I am grateful for how everyone works in practice, which favored our outcome.” Mustangs finished the season undefeated in district with only one pre season loss, and their record being 17-1.
