This weekend, on Saturday, August 30, Upper School, Middle School and Lower School runners competed in The Battle at the Buff in Haltom City. Most of the runners knew their course in this race and it definitely showed. Freshman Camden Holley and sophomore Cooper Huggins medaled for the first time this season in the JV boys’ race. Senior Dylan Neuner, junior Carys Mejan and freshmen Everett Neuner and Brianna Dunne all medaled in the JV girls’ race. Holley and Mejan received the Ric Flair Award for excellent effort and work ethic during their races and the prior week of practice. The Upper School got second overall and is working hard to earn first place in the future.
In Middle School, sixth-grader Beckett Hodge managed to medal in an eighth-grade race and seventh-graders Rebecca Dominguez and Layton Tennison medaled in the seventh-grade race. The Ric Flair Award winners in Middle School were Tennison and seventh-grader Ethan Hensley, who won the award for their laughter, fun and support they bring to the team. When asked about how the meet went, sixth grader Eden Lansford said, “I feel like this is one of the best races I’ve done, and I felt amazing afterwards. I didn’t get a personal record, but I’m pretty happy with the place that I got.”
However, despite these accomplishments, the most surprising outcome of the meet was from a group of Lower Schoolers. After the Upper School and Middle School races were finished, the Lil Stangs stepped to the starting line and competed in their own race. Fifth graders Chris Moore and Aly Tennison received medals in this race, and they were able to join in on the celebration with their older siblings.
The Upper School’s next meet is scheduled for Friday, September 12, and the Middle School’s next meet is set for Saturday, September 13. Both teams will compete in Pilot Point, where they will participate in their fourth race of the season.
