On Monday, October 27, the Upper School cross country teams competed at their TAPPS state meet in the 4A division in Waco. The teams raced in the afternoon, so the conditions were definitely hotter than usual, but each runner pushed through and tried their hardest. While nobody on either team earned a medal, the girls’ team still placed seventh overall, with senior Dylan Neuner, junior Carys Mejan, and freshman Everett Neuner finishing as the top three. On the boys’ team, the top three runners were sophomore Cooper Huggins, freshman Camden Holley and freshman William Mevius. Despite the heat, all of the runners pushed their limits, concluding their season with some great runs.
The entire team celebrated their final meet at Dave’s Burger Barn and headed home after a long day. When asked to think back on the season, freshman Cole Huffman said, “My favorite memory was staying at a lake house with my friends at one of the meets. Also, the season went well. Everybody did well and improved.”
As their season comes to an end, the runners may be relieved, but they are also sad. Their time in cross country brought many good memories, and most of them can’t wait to run again next year.
