In January and May the Rotary Club of McKinney selects two students attending high school. Those students are recognized at a Rotary Club meeting based on five different values: service, fellowship, diversity, integrity, and leadership. Students can submit an application to be considered for recognition. Seniors Sophie Temple and Jud Williams were recognized on January 12 at the weekly Rotary Club meeting. Both of these students were recognized for the demonstration of the five principles the Rotary Club lays as their foundation. Temple is a competitive cheerleader who has been the Summit National Champion 2 times and was selected as Cheerleader of the Year; she gives her time and talent to younger athletes as a recreational tumbling coach at All 4 Cheer. After their first international mission trip together, Temple and her parents created a non-profit organization, Good Father Ministries, to continue and expand the work in the Dominican Republic. She personally goes to the Dominican Republic three times a year, a total of nine mission trips, and has recruited countless other students and adults to join in the work.

Jud is an athlete, participating in MCA’s wrestling, track and football teams and served as the football team captain; he is a member of the National Honor Society. Outside of school, he attends Kanakuk Christian camps where he was awarded the Heart Award for exemplary kindness and compassion, works at Stonebridge Country Club and enjoys outdoor activities including hunting, scuba diving, snowboarding and camping. He readily serves others, volunteering at SEEK Camp for disabled children in the summer and spending one to two weeks a year in international mission work with three trips to the Dominican Republic and one to Guatemala.
