On January 19 and 20, Freshman Jake Gerardis attended the public school ATSSB (Association of Texas Small School Bands) All-Region band concert and clinic. Gerardis was the only Upper School student from MCA to attend. Gerardis plays the euphonium. At All-Region, students from around the area went to Princeton High School to showcase their talents. On Friday, the students were presented music to practice together. On Saturday, all of the different instruments came together for a concert. Gerardis said, “My favorite part was receiving the challenging music, and putting it all together.” Gerardis attended the TPSMEA (Texas Private School Music Educators Association) All-State Band meet the following weekend.

Gerardis went to the Renaissance Hotel in Richardson. When Gerardis arrived at All-State, he found out that he would be selected as first chair on euphonium. There were only four other students in his section. “I liked the music our director chose; it was fun and easy to learn,” Gerardis said. Half-way through the weekend Gerardis got sick, and he had to leave early. Since he went to both public and private school events, he had the opportunity to play different types of music and showcase his talent. Gerardis said, “I liked public school All-Region more because the director picked better and more challenging songs.” Gerardis is the only freshman on euphonium to make the public school All-Region band.
