After achieving an 8-2 record during district play, the Varsity boys basketball team earned second place in TAPPS 5A District 2 and advanced to the first round of playoffs. On Friday, February 26, the Mustangs topped the visiting Frassati Catholic High School Falcons by a final score of 53-44 and secured the first playoff win in team history. The Mustangs were down 23-24 at halftime but were able to regain the lead after a big 7-0 run to start the second half. The starting lineup for Friday’s game consisted of sophomore Bobby McWard, juniors Jalen Wheeler and Zeke Long, and seniors Blake McGraw and Hudson Cross. McWard led the Mustangs with 19 points, knocking down four three-pointers. Just behind McWard, Wheeler put up a total of 14 points. When asked about his feelings after the game senior Blake McGraw stated, “It’s been an honor to be a part of this team and I’m excited to continue this historic playoff run.”

After Friday night’s win, the Mustangs advanced to the second round of playoffs. On Tuesday, March 2, the Mustangs will play the defending state champions Frisco Legacy Christian at 6 p.m. at home. This will be the last home game of the season as the following games will be at neutral sites.
