TAPPS 5A District 2 Track and Field Runner Up

Both varsity girls and boys track teams move on to the Regional Championships after finishing Runner-Up at the District Meet.

On Thursday, April 15 the Mustang Varsity Track and Field teams traveled to the Brookhill School in Tyler, Texas to compete in the TAPPS 5A District 2 meet. The district meet determines who qualifies to compete in the next round, the regional championship. Regionals will only consist of those who placed within the top three of their event. Both the girls and boys team finished the track meet as District Runner Up.

Junior Maddox Pederson achieved a total of five medals in both track and field events. To start off the meet, Pederson long jumped 20’ 8, setting the school record and placing first overall. Pederson also placed third in triple jump and second in the 4×100-meter relay. The boys 4×200 meter relay team, consisting of freshman Jacob Dover-Smith, juniors Pederson and Daniel Kanz, and senior Maliq Brock, set the new school record with a time of 1:31.23 and finished first in their race. The champions of the 4×400 meter relay team include freshman Noah Wheeler, juniors Pederson and Kanz, and senior Brock. Freshman David Roller and junior Sutton Mayberry qualified for the regional championship in the 400-meter dash. Roller also qualified for regionals in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:59.50. 

The girls 4×100 and 4×400 meter relay teams qualified for the regional championships. The 4×100 team includes sophomores Belle Kanz, Sarah Kruising, and Georgia Haggard, and junior Charli Bazor. They finished in third place with a time of 55.95. The 4×400 team consisting of freshman Grace Krause, sophomore Kanz, junior Bazor, and senior Ruth Perry, placed second overall with a time of 4:55.04. Moving forward in Discus is freshman Kaylin Starling. Starling threw 80-10 and finished in third place.

The Regional Championship will take place on Thursday, April 20 at Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas. After regionals, the next stop is the state championship.
