On Friday January 20th the boys and girls Varsity Basketball teams hosted Tyler All Saints in a district matchup. The Lady Mustangs fought hard but went down by 14 going into halftime. After some mid game adjustments the Lady Mustangs fought their way back into a lead late in the fourth quarter. Freshman Sadie Zbranek had a career high 23 points, but it was not enough to hold off the Lady Trojans in a 39-42 loss. Head Coach Eric Nelson told the girls “We fought with a lot of heart in the second half. We just have to put this behind us and learn to fight earlier on in the game and fight from start to finish.”

Meanwhile the boys had a different outcome. After gaining a double digit lead in the first the boys never looked back. Putting up 45 points in the first half, the lead just got bigger. Junior Noah Wheeler scored a season high 21 points in the victory by the Mustangs, followed by Senior Bobby McWard having 14 and Sophomore John Clark with 15 points. The Mustangs held out the win 74-30. Assistant Coach Nathan Hamilton says ” We came out of the gates fast. We played fast, together, and we played with purpose. We have been talking about being purpose driven all year and the boys really showed what that means tonight”

Look for your Varsity Girls and Boys basketball teams on Tuesday January 24 travelling to Dallas Christian in another district matchup.
