On Friday January 27, four of McKinney Christian Academy’s senior varsity basketball Mustangs were recognized. The seniors included Bobby McWard, Nate McMahon, Meagan Stephenson and Abby Thomas. McWard and McMahon have won a state championship in basketball making MCA history. McWard has set records himself by scoring over 2,000 points in his career, the most in MCA history. When McWard was asked about his time with MCA basketball, he replied, “MCA basketball has impacted my life by giving me a second family and a great group of friends. I hope to win another state championship to finish out my high school career.” The girls basketball team has two senior girls,  Thomas and Stephenson. Unfortunately Thomas’ season was cut short due to a knee injury. When Thomas was asked about her MCA basketball career, she added, “Playing basketball has taught me the importance of leadership and discipline. Playing for MCA makes it much easier to accomplish all of my goals because I am accompanied by great teammates and coaches. At the end of the day, the scoreboard means nothing to me. All that matters is that I gave my all and honored God while doing so.” Both teams were defeated in tough losses against Brook Hill School. However, varsity boys have achieved a playoff spot and look to rematch Brook Hill in the district championship game on Monday, February 6.
