On Thursday, February 9 the Mustang boys varsity baseball team traveled to John Paul II High School in Plano, Texas, for a double header in the Matt Clark Classic. The Mustangs started off the 3-game stretch against the HSAA Angels who quickly took a 2-run lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back. With the Angels up 9-0, the Mustangs tried to put together a rally with 4 runs in the last inning but it wasn’t enough. Sophomore Judd Witte led the way for the Mustangs going 2-3 with a double and a triple.

The Mustangs took on Bishop Lynch the following game. The Friar’s went up 2-0 but could not hold the lead after a 4-run inning by the Mustangs. Unfortunately, a 3 and 5-run inning in the bottom of the 5th sealed the deal for Bishop Lynch winning 10-4. Junior Connor Jarzombek went 2-3 and was at the top of the hit column for the Mustangs.

After a rain delay on Friday, the Mustangs traveled to Fort Worth Christian to play the Cardinals, who knocked them out of the playoffs last year. The Mustangs put up 2 runs in the top of the first and never quit. After scoring 6 runs in the last 3 innings of the game the Cardinals failed to rally as the Mustangs walked away with an 8-1 win. Junior Jax Marshall went 4-4 with a home run, double and 2 singles. When talking with head coach Brady James about his team’s performance this weekend he said, “I am proud of the boys for how they handled the adversity after the 2 early losses, but came out and played to their fullest potential and getting revenge on a solid baseball team who knocked them out of the playoffs last year.”

The boys will play Lake Country Christian and Grapevine Faith at the Texas School Classic on Friday, February 17, at Colleyville Covenant.
