On Tuesday, February 14, the McKinney Christian Academy Mustangs faced off against Pantego Christian in the first round of the TAPPS 4A Playoffs in the Student Life Center. The student section was dressed according to the “Black-Out” themed game. Sophomore guard Landry Draper said, “We love our student section and they always bring the energy and give us that extra boost.” The Mustangs’ record was 30-10 going into this game and Pantego held a record of 18-17. The Mustangs started off the game strong with two free throws and possession to open the game, due to a technical foul called on Pantego. The Mustangs finished up the first half 51-42. The Mustangs came out to finish the second half with a 92-68 victory. Sophomore Guard John Clark said, “The talk at halftime really got us going, Coach Fonzo motivated us. Even though the team was in foul trouble, we came together and played confidently to close out the game.” The Mustangs play next on Friday, February 17, in the Regionals against the Grace Prep Lions. If the Mustangs win their next game, they will be headed to the TAPPS State Semifinals in Waco.
