On Monday April 9, the McKinney Christian Academy Varsity baseball team travelled to Grand Saline, Texas to play Brook Hill out of Bullard, Texas. Since this was a regional playoff game, it was held at a neutral site. The Mustangs opened up the game in the first inning, when sophomore Judd Witte’s sacrifice fly scored one run. This turned out to be a crucial point for the Mustangs as not one more run was scored until after the lightning delay in the seventh inning. That being said, this game was mainly a pitchers’ duel between junior Connor Jarzombek pitching for the Mustangs, and senior Cade Chesley pitching for Brook Hill. Jarzombek let up zero runs on two hits in five innings, striking out five. On the offensive side, the MCA Mustangs tallied four hits. Sophomore Marc Jensen and junior Jax Marshall each collected multiple hits for the team. Also, the Mustangs committed no errors throughout the duration of the game. After the game, head coach Brady James talks about the game saying, “I was really proud of our guys last night. Our word of the day, so to speak, was perseverance, and I truly believe the team was able to persevere with excellence last night! Baseball is weird and rain delays can have serious impacts on tight games like that one, but our guys stayed with it and our bench was amazing last night with their energy. It was a lot of fun.” In the end, this win advances the Mustangs to the TAPPS Division III State Tournament.

Their next game is on Monday, May 15 at Clay Gould Ballpark at the University of Texas at Arlington against Lake Country Christian School. They will be competing for a spot in the state championship.
