On Tuesday, April 30, the McKinney Christian Varsity Mustangs played against the Colleyville Covenant Cougars at home for the first round of playoffs. The Mustangs played the first two games out of a three game series. MCA lost the first game with a score of 16-7. Senior Connor Jarzombek singled scoring one run in the first, in the second senior Jax Marshall doubled making the score 2-0. In the third inning junior Judd Witte hit a homerun to left field making the score 5-0. The Cougars completely flipped the game in the top of the fourth, as they went on to score 12 runs with nine hits to take a 12-5 lead. In the bottom of the sixth Senior Jax Marshall hits a solo home run to give the Mustangs another run making it 6-12. Ultimately, the Cougars didn’t let off and took game one with the final score of 7-16.
The second game took place right after and the Cougars opened the game putting one run on the board in the first. The Mustangs were quick to rally back after senior Caden Brown lined out scoring two runs, Marshall doubled scoring one, and junior John Clark doubled scoring one. Covenant took the lead in the bottom of the second after a single and an error allowing two runs to score making it 5-4. The Mustangs then scored three in the top of the third when Caden Brown flew out scoring one and an error scoring two. Junior Marc Jensen opened the game for the Mustangs and gave up seven hits and six runs giving the Mustangs what they needed to pull out a win in game two as the final score was 9-6 with a Mustangs win.
