On Wednesday, May 8, the McKinney Christian Academy varsity baseball team faced off against the Lubbock Trinity Christian Lions for game two of the series. This game would determine whether the Mustangs would sweep the Lions and head to the State tournament or play game three to decide the series. The Mustangs first got on the board in the first inning after sophomore Porter Carroll singled, scoring two runs. The Mustangs then added to their lead in the top of the third inning after a pitch hit junior Micah Gagnon, junior Caden Brown hit a sacrifice fly, junior John Clark singled, and senior Jax Marshall lined out, each scoring one run. Junior Marc Jensen started on the mound for the Mustangs and ended up pitching a complete game, giving up four hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out three, and walking six. Ultimately, Clark, senior Connor Jarzombek, Marshall, junior Teague Spivey, Jensen, Brown, Gagnon, and Carroll led the team offensively, each collecting one hit as the Mustangs took the win with a final score of 6-3, sweeping the Lions and punching their ticket to the State tournament. After the game, Head Coach Brady James shares his thoughts on the series, saying, “We played awesome and I love our guys, and I know they are capable of winning the state championship.”
Their next game will be on Monday, May 13, against Brook Hill for the semi-finals.
