On Friday, August 29, the McKinney Christian Academy varsity football team faced off against the Founders Classical Academy Eagles in their season opener. The Mustangs would enter the year with a number of key returning players. They would only graduate one player from last year’s team. The Mustangs look to improve from the previous season and that all started with their first game. They would come out with a great start and would score on the first drive. The Mustangs’ defense would hold strong, allowing only seven points at halftime. Junior Chase Bruegel pushed the Mustangs out to a 14-point lead at halftime because of a touchdown, then a pick-six the very next drive. Coming out of halftime, the Mustangs would come out strong, with senior Cody Dow throwing for 181 total yards and a passing touchdown, along with an additional two rushing touchdowns. The Mustangs would come out on top of this game with a final score of 56-26.
The Mustangs will play their next game at home next Friday against Coram Deo.
