Starting on Thursday, November 13, the McKinney Christian Academy Mustangs’ varsity men’s basketball team began the Grapevine Faith Fall Classic Tournament. The first game was held on Thursday, and the Mustangs faced off against Covenant Classical Academy. The Mustangs started off the tournament hot with a big win over Covenant. This game was controlled by MCA the entire time, and the Mustangs won 86-33. In the first game on Friday, the Mustangs played Lake Country Christian School. Once again, the Mustangs controlled this game, though it was closer than the first, with MCA winning 94-62. In the second game on Friday, the Mustangs faced Legacy Christian Academy, still undefeated at that point. The Mustangs defeated Legacy 60-48. On Saturday, November 16, the Mustangs head into the final day of the tournament undefeated and playing for a championship. MCA played Grapevine Faith in the championship, and it was a great game; the Mustangs pulled away in the end, winning 92-47. The Mustangs played amazingly, and a few players got awards. Junior, Leonardo Jimenez won the tournament MVP, and juniors Diego Landin and Manny Weaver, and senior Manny Weaver were nominated for the all-tournament team. MCA played well all weekend and remains undefeated this season. Sophomore, Elias Guadamuz, spoke about the game, saying, “We had a lot of energy and were ready to play. It showed through our performance, and I’m glad we brought home the win.” They next play on Tuesday, November 18, against Brighter Horizons.
