The next day, the Mustangs faced Westbury Christian School in the TAPPS 4A State Championship. MCA took a 15-9 lead in the first quarter. Westbury made a one-legged half-court shot at the buzzer to end the first half, with the Mustangs leading 24-23. In the third quarter, MCA held Westbury to 0 points and extended the lead to 36-23. At the end of the fourth quarter, the final score was 49-31, and the Mustangs won the TAPPS 4A State Championship. Junior, Diego Landin, led the team in scoring in the championship game with 20 points. Landin, Weaver, and senior, Jaydan Vicknair, were named to the All-Tournament Team. When Head Coach, Fonzo Martinez, was asked about what makes this state championship special, he said, “This one was my first State championship title as a head coach. I have been at MCA for 6 years, so winning state with some guys who have been in the program for a long period of time, and just the way this group plays together and plays for each other made it really special!”
