On January 29th, the Varsity Mustangs took on their rival Dallas Covenant. Each year the team plays them twice. Earlier this year, the team played against them and won 3-1. This time, however, the Mustangs could not pull out another victory. The Mustangs scored first and boosted team morale early in the first half. Covenant came back and scored three times. Going into half, the team was down. Goalkeeper and junior Elyse Mead stated, “Halftime was hard because we are not used to catching up to the other team. I knew it was important for us to keep up positive energy if we wanted to win the game.” The girls battled hard through the second half and eventually caught up, tying Covenant 3-3. Dallas Covenant ended up scoring one more on a penalty kick and ended up winning. This was a hard game to lose and the teams first loss in two seasons. A large part of the loss may be accredited to the large amount of sickness and injuries the team is working through right now. Despite the loss, the girls came prepared to play Cristo Rey on Wednesday. They won this game with a final score of 5-2.
