On Tuesday, February 11th the Lady Mustang basketball team traveled to Dallas Lutheran to face off against Prince of Peace in the neutral site district championship. The two teams split the regular-season series 1-1 each winning close, two-point games. The game started slow, with POPCS holding the ball and stalling for the first four minutes of the game forcing a low scoring 2-2 first quarter. As the game started to speed up, POPCS was able to take a 14-11 lead at halftime. The deficit stayed the same after the third and it was going to be another tight game for the Lady Mustangs. Maddie Clark cut the lead to 25-24 with a steal and fast-break layup with two minutes remaining in the game. Despite the effort, the Lady Mustangs fell just short to POPCS 32-27 in the district championship game, giving them the number two seed in the playoffs. When asked about being a leading scorer for the district championship, freshman Georgia Haggard stated, “I really owe all the shots to my coaches, they’ve helped me come really far this season and I know our whole team would have preferred a different score, but I am still extremely proud of how everyone on the team played.” The team will be travelling to Austin to play St. Michaels in the Area Championships on Tuesday, February 18th.
