On Friday, February 26, the Varsity baseball team played in their first tournament of the season at Anna High School. In the first game, they came out strong in an 8-0 blowout victory against Howe. In the second and final game of the tournament they had another shutout 3-0 win against the fourth ranked 3A UIL team Pottsboro. Seniors Jake Gerardis and Shane Vanderhagen had multiple hits in both games helping out the Mustangs on offense. Head Coach, Mike Pirtle, commented on the wins stating, “The pitchers did really well. Cooper Roach, Ryan Radtke, and Jake Gerardis. Big wins, big wins!” Vanderhagen later expressed his expectations for the season saying, “Having Ryan come in and set the tone on the mound and also have guys like Carson and Cooper come in clutch was just a glimpse of what our future holds.” The Mustangs play against Greenhill at home March 2 at 4 p.m. in their next game.
