On Friday, November 1, the McKinney Christian Academy staff and students gathered outside the Upper School for the “Moving the Stones” rally. One of MCA’s founders, Dr. Lee Brock began the rally by praying for the school. Then, Band Director, Jordann Searcy and Middle School Principal, Chance Dorris, led the song “The Goodness of God.” Head of School, Heath Nivens, came onto the stage to speak about the building campaign. To begin construction, MCA needs to raise 8.5 million dollars. With 6.5 million dollars currently raised, we need 2 million more. The rally initiated the moving of 500 stones, in hopes that Alumni, families and the community would come together to support the goal. As four thousand dollars are donated, a stone will be placed around the outline of the new STEM building. As of Friday, only 375 stones remained to be placed. When asked what he was most looking forward to in this next chapter of MCA, Nivens said, “So for the here and now, I’m looking forward to seeing what God does to move these 375 stones, but then after that, I’m looking forward to when the building is complete. To see the impact that not just the classroom but the teachers have on students because there’s gonna be a lot of awesome instruction in there that we just can’t do right now because of our facilities. So, it’s gonna change our school tremendously.” The MCA staff and students eagerly await the expansion of the school.
