Considerably, the most meaningful mentoring tradition in the Lower School is Mustangs on Deck. This program pairs older students in grades three to five with younger buddies in Pre-K to second grades, creating opportunities for leadership, discipleship, and lasting friendships. Each month, the buddies walk together to their chapel, where they worship, learn, and grow in their faith. Later in the month, they gather again for a hands-on project that connects to the chapel message, giving students a chance to practice what they’ve learned in a fun and meaningful way. The theme for the month was The Great Commandment. They were reminded again of how God’s Love for us never fails. They made bracelets out of pipe cleaners and beads. Through programs like Mustangs on the Deck, younger students experience the loving support and kindness of an older role model, and older buddies gain the opportunity to lead the way Christ intended. It’s a simple but powerful way for Mustangs of all ages to grow closer to God and each other.
