Starting on April 4, the McKinney Christian Academy Upper School Theatre produced its Spring Musical, The Play That Goes Wrong. The theater department has been preparing for the show’s debut for many weeks. Many students said it was a fantastic performance and seeing the theatre students get into character was terrific. Fine Arts Director and Theatre teacher, Julie Tucker, was asked how she felt the play went. “This year’s show was one-of-a-kind. Preparing a show not only to “go wrong” on cue but also spontaneously and humorously takes much more time and effort than a regular play. Since most of our cast is relatively new to performing on the scale required for our SLC stage, I am so proud that they rose to the challenge to make this show a success. After accomplishing this challenge, the momentum excites us for our future shows.” Other students, including senior Luke Macanally, were asked about their views of the play.” My favorite part was when the audience laughed and enjoyed the show. This is the best play I’ve ever taken part of.” Freshman Andrew Doering was asked about his favorite memory from the play. “The sword fight between Robert and Cecil was fun, and I feel very confident in my performance on stage.” All the actors, as did the backstage crew, poured their hearts into the play, including sophomore Carys Mejan. She said, “My favorite part was watching friends be able to be themselves on stage and for people to see that side they would usually get to see. It’s also cool to be behind the scenes and see the art of performing when not on stage.” Look for the next Fine Arts show, the Dinner Show, on April 26.
