Freshman, Camden Holley, made McKinney Christian Academy history as the youngest student author ever. At only 14, Holley wrote his first book, “My Pet, Peeve.” He began the writing process after his brother continued to sing the Dude Perfect song, “Pet Peeves”, over and over again. This got him thinking about the idea of writing a book, and it just clicked. He began the writing process in August of 2024 and finished while on a mission trip to Hungary. Holley reached out to publishers with the idea of becoming a true author. They read his book and were amazed at the creativity that only a 14-year-old could offer. The editing only took about a month to clean it up and bring it to its full potential. After trying to find a trusted illustrator, Holley ultimately chose the talented, eighth grader, Rylee Mullins. Mullins is a student at McKinney Christian Academy and can now say that she has illustrated a book at such a young age. The two worked hand in hand as they finished the book, released on October 24, 2025. When Holley was asked about the process of his bookmaking he said, “I thoroughly enjoyed the writing and editing process, working with Rylee was incredibly fun.” Both Holley and Mullins put a lot of their time, energy, and love into this book.
