Today, McKinney Christian Academy honors the tragic events that happened 24 years ago. The city of McKinney hosted its annual community event this week, from September 8-12, to remember those who have fallen. The McKinney Fire Department participated in the Memorial Stair Climb. This was done alongside many other Dallas firefighters, just like they have all done every year since 2012. The McKinney Stair Climb is an event where firefighters from across America scale a two-story building 55 times, all while wearing body armor, a helmet, and an M-4. All this equipment was worn by the firefighters who climbed up 110 stories of the Twin Towers to save people from the highest floors. The heroic acts of bravery will be forever remembered by the people of America and McKinney Christian Academy. Joseph Castillo, a teacher at McKinney Christian, said, “9/11 means remembering the fallen soldiers who fought for our country. It shows the ultimate sacrifice and we need to honor people who made the ultimate sacrifice just as Jesus did. History repeats itself if we don’t learn about it, so it is important to learn about the attacks of September 11, 2001 yearly.” Castillo is a former American soldier and now teaches C.E.R.T., Health, and Personal Finance. The Mustangs support 9/11 survivors and thank God for another day of life that we have been blessed with.
