On Friday, August 14, McKinney Christian Academy’s 2027 senior class headed to Sky Ranch for its annual senior retreat. The retreat allowed seniors to grow closer as a class while preparing for their role as leaders of the school.
On the first night, Warren Truesdale spoke to the seniors about leadership. He explained that seniors are leaders throughout the school, even if they do not always see themselves that way. Simply being a senior gives students an important leadership role at MCA.
After Truesdale spoke, students split into small groups of about six to seven people. The small groups allowed students to be vulnerable and open up to one another. The groups will continue meeting throughout the year as students encourage each other to grow in their faith.
“Something that stuck out with me is God works in a lot of different ways,” senior Collin Kincheloe said.
In previous years, retreat was an event for the entire Upper School. However, this is the second year MCA has held a separate senior-only retreat. Because seniors serve as leaders of the school, spending time together at the beginning of the year allows them to strengthen their relationships with one another.
“I wanted the seniors to focus on their personal relationship with God and their relationship with each other,” Warren Truesdale said.
Throughout the retreat, the senior class participated in activities and spent time together away from school. The retreat allowed students to set aside their differences, grow closer as a class, and prepare for their final year at MCA.
Although many seniors enjoy events involving the entire Upper School, the senior-only retreat allowed the Class of 2027 to focus on building relationships within its own grade. Many students left the retreat feeling closer to their classmates and more prepared to lead the school during their senior year.
