On August 13, McKinney Christian Academy’s JV and varsity volleyball teams faced Legacy Christian. The JV Lady Mustangs came from behind to win their match, while the varsity team fell to Legacy in three sets.
The JV Lady Mustangs started the match with a 25-21 loss in the first set. Despite falling behind early in the match, the team kept its energy high heading into the second set.
MCA responded in a close second set, defeating Legacy 27-25 to force a deciding third set. The Lady Mustangs carried their momentum into the final set and won 15-11 to complete the comeback. Junior Bella Goodwin spoke on the game. She said, “We had lots of communication, and we worked well as a team.”
Following the JV victory, the varsity Lady Mustangs took the court against Legacy. MCA kept the opening set close but fell 25-22. Legacy maintained its lead throughout the second set and defeated MCA 25-17.
The Lady Mustangs attempted to extend the match in the third set but fell short, 25-21, giving Legacy the three-set victory. Sophomore Berkley Ballew led MCA in scoring. Junior Anna Brocket spoke on the game. She said, “We tried our hardest and didn’t end up on top; we will continue to work on our communication as a team.”
Despite the varsity loss, both MCA teams gained another opportunity to compete early in the season. The JV team left the match with a comeback victory, while varsity will have an opportunity to respond in its next matchup.
The JV and varsity teams will return to the court Aug. 18 against Oakridge. The JV match will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 6 p.m.
