On Sunday, March 3, a group of McKinney Christian Academy students from grades 10-12 flew to New Mexico to serve at a non-profit mission. Students arrived on the first day at Christ for All Nations in Cuba, New Mexico, where they were oriented with the area and met up with their Joshua Expeditions guide. The students had an opportunity to make authentic Navajo fry bread for dinner and talk with some of the Navajo Nation natives. The first main task in the morning on Monday was to package up meals of rice and beans. Over a day and a half, they packed over 350 bags to distribute. Once finished they broke into two different groups and headed out into the Navajo reservation to pass out the meals. Each bag provided 6 servings, able to feed the many family members. The students also used this time to invite them to the worship service and Vacation Bible School they hosted that night. Going out into the reservation showed them the living situations which was extremely impactful for many of the students. They were invited into homes and prayed over some of those that were encountered. Wednesday, they served on the mission helping the leaders with tasks that had been neglected. They cleaned, organized, dug trenches and repaired stuff around the property. The Worship Services and VBS nights were on Tuesday and Wednesday. The students learned Navajo songs and also taught English songs. The Navajo children loved the crafts and connected to the love of Jesus, His promises and the story of Salvation through bracelets. The Navajo loved to hear from the students and were eager to hear from the Word of God. They followed along in their Bibles and connected in conversations after the service. When asked about the trip, sophomore Makennah Vann said, “I loved getting to interact with the people and serve with kids during VBS nights”.
