On Thursday, May 1, the McKinney Christian Varsity Baseball team faced Colleyville Covenant in the regional round of the playoffs. The Mustangs won their district, going a perfect 8-0, so this was their second playoff game after getting a first-round bye and beating Lubbock Christian 7-3 for the area title. Both teams started the game off slow, going scoreless in the first inning. However, Colleyville was the first to tally a run in the top of the second, with the Mustangs responding right after with a run of their own, tying the game at 1-1. Senior Marc Jensen was on the mound for the Mustangs. The game stayed close after some back and forth; the Cougars scored one more run to make the game 2-1 in favor of Colleyville. But the Mustangs weren’t responding well, and after an overthrow on a throw down to third, one more run scored. With a last-chance effort in the bottom of the 7th, the Mustangs rallied, scoring a run to make it 3-2 while putting runners on first and second. With two outs in the bottom of the 7th, senior captain Judd Witte ripped a double down the line, scoring both runners in a walk-off Mustang win! Their next game is on Friday, May 9, for the state semifinal at the University of Texas at Arlington.
