On Saturday, November 4, the McKinney Christian Academy varsity volleyball team competed against Pantego Christian in the TAPPS 4A Regional playoff game. The winner of this game determined which team gets to play in the state tournament. The Mustangs beat the Pantego Panthers in five close sets. The score of the first set was 25-18. When asked about how she felt going into the second set, Senior Kaylin Starling said “I was ready to get our team in complete control of the match at the beginning of the first set. After we dominated them, the second set we focused on keeping our lead. It was a slight shift of emotions, but they had the same end goal.” The Mustangs lost both the second and third set with scores of 24-26 and 21-25.

The Mustangs came back and won the fourth set with a close score of 25-23. When asked about the fourth and fifth set of the game, Senior Kylie Mullins says “5th set I just knew we had to put it all out there. Everything was on the line, but we always talked about no regrets. I wanted to play with no regrets, put everything I had left out on the court, and it resulted in a win that on paper doesn’t seem possible. After fighting hard in the 4th set to bring us back into the game, I was confident that we could overcome the difficulty and pave our path to state.” After being down 14-11 the Mustangs won the fifth set 16-14 advancing them to the Final Four of the State Tournament.

The Mustang will face Grace Prep on Friday, November 10 at 1pm in Waco, Texas.
